The Knight Street Victoria area has blossomed into an attractive spot for the trendy younger, middle-class singles and families. Knight and Victoria offers a pleasing mixture of single-family and multi-unit dwellings for residents. There are brand new builds, iconic Vancouver specials, and heritage homes to impress every family type.
Knight is located on the east side of Vancouver and bordered by Fraser, Grandview Woodland, Victoria, South Vancouver and Fraserview.
Kensington Park tops the list of parks in the neighbourhood. Boasting some of the best views in the city (from the top of the hill on 37th and Knight), this picturesque park has large sports fields, a skate park (it kinda looks like an empty 80’s swimming pool), playgrounds and a ball diamond. It’s also home to the Kensington Community Centre (see below).
Outside of Kensington Park, residents of Knight are, shall we say “park rich”. Locals have the luxury of being so close to Memorial South Park, designed specifically for sporting events and community gatherings. The sports fields, outdoor rink and running track entertain all sorts sporting events. The synthetic turf field hosts soccer, field hockey and lacrosse and it’s well lit for evening games. Clark Park, just north on East 14th Ave, features basketball courts, soccer fields, tennis courts and a baseball diamond.
Predominately made up of younger families, the neighbourhood has plenty of schools for children of all ages. The elementary school level includes McBride Elementary, Dickens Annex, Sir Sandford Fleming Elementary, Lord Selkirk Annex, Tecumseh Elementary and Tecumseh Annex. Gladstone Secondary, David Thompson Secondary and John Oliver Secondary give older kids some schooling options.
King Edward Village, just off the corner of Kingsway and Knight, has several small shops & services, along with a Save-On-Foods for your grocery runs and a pharmacy. There’s several small pockets within the community that have a diverse ethnic scene where you’ll find delicious eats, unique retail stores and warm, friendly service. Travel down Knight for some unique local grocers and more notable large grocery names, like T&T Supermarket on Kingsway. You’ll also find liquor stores, drug stores and much more on Kingsway.
