Description

FOR OVER 30 YEARS, SUMAC RIDGE ESTATE WINERY HAS BEEN BRINGING QUALITY VQA WINES TO YOUR DINNER TABLE.
As B.C.’s first operating estate winery, our goal has been to take the finest grapes from the Southern Okanagan Valley and craft them into delicious wines you’ll be proud to serve at your table. No matter what the occasion, Sumac Ridge has always been there to welcome you home.

B.C.’s WINE INDUSTRY GREW UP WITH US.
Sumac Ridge was the very first operating estate winery in British Columbia and we’re proudly celebrating 36 years in 2017. Our winery was founded by Harry McWatters in 1979 in the aptly named town of Summerland in the Okanagan Valley. Since the 1800s, the area’s combination of sparkling water, brilliant sun and fertile land has made it ideal for growing grapes.

Sumac Ridge Estate Winery has been dedicated to producing wine from 100% BC grown grapes since its inception, and have set the standard for high quality in fine wines. There were only 17 operating wineries in BC in 1990, when the BC VQA (Vintners Quality Alliance) was established. Today, there are 341 wineries, growing more than 75 different grape varieties.

Grapes grown in our vineyards include Gewürztraminer, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay. We also source additional grapes from other respected vineyards throughout the South Okanagan and Similkameen Valleys. To learn more about our history, visit our timeline.

We attended the mastering Meritage and it was an amazing experience. We tasted and discussed 5 different varieties of red and then tried to replicate the wine makes Meritage. The class was very informative and lots of fun. The food was wonderful and they topped it off with chocolates and port. Highly recommend this experience and would definitely go again. Sumac never disappoints!

We were doing a staff party wine tour on Friday night and Sumac Ridge was just about to close as it was 5pm. We asked Shea, the wine man, to please stay open and he did! We all really enjoyed the wine and his knowledge. The atmosphere is great and there was more than just wine to purchase. What a fun visit!!
