East Side, Vancouver

Hip and chalked full of character.  The neighbourhood of Main is a small pocket that borders trendy Main Street, which has experienced a revival of stores from cool dives to chic stores and cafés.

Without a doubt, Main Street has become one of the hottest communities in Vancouver. Its central location, large selection of schools, parks, unique shops and excellent dining make this East Van neighbourhood the place to be.

Laying just on the outskirts of downtown, Main has its benefits including efficient transit, fantastic nightlife, unique, one-off shopping, and a vast selection of tasty gastro hubs. The neighbourhood has really gained steam over the last decade, which reflects in the amazing amenities in the community.

Main is located on the east side of Vancouver and bordered by Cambie, Fraser, Mount Pleasant East and South Vancouver.

The community is dotted with smaller parks, but the real headliner is sitting on the western border.

Riley Park, Prince Edward Park and MacDonald Park all have plenty of space, great views and family-friendly amenities. Venture a block or two west and land at the stunning Queen Elizabeth Park.

Riley Park, a 2.7 hectare green space, is centrally located in the community. The largest park in the neighbourhood offers a baseball diamond, two playgrounds, soccer field and wading pool.

The beautifully manicured Queen Elizabeth Park is the second-most visited park in Vancouver and boasts some of the best views in the city. This massive park offers a pitch and putt course, tennis courts, lawn bowling and much more.  At the pinnacle of the park lies the incredible Bloedel Conservatory.

Nearby Amenities

The impressive Hillcrest Centre flanks the western edge of the community.

There are several notable amenities in the area, including Nat Bailey Stadium, Vancouver Racquets Club and a myriad of schools.

Hillcrest Community Centre, the curling venue to the 2010 Winter Olympic, is a world-class facility featuring an NHL sized skating rink, dance centre, indoor pool, fitness centre and an outdoor playground. aquatic and fitness centres.  Its next door neighourhood, Nat Bailey Stadium, is home to the minor league baseball team, The Vancouver Canadians.  Make sure to catch a nooner game!

Main is well served by four elementary schools including Brock Elementary, Wolf Elementary, Van Horne Elementary and Livingstone Elementary, Sir Charles Tupper Secondary, Sir John Oliver and Sir Winston Churchill Secondary schools are in, or just outside the boundaries of Main. Khalsa School, St. Andrews School and Vancouver College offer private institution options and are close by.

Locally owned boutique shops & family owned eateries line the street.

Main Street is peppered with trendy shops, outstanding restaurants, and friendly, down to earth service.

There’s a reason why there’s a section of main (Main & King Ed) that got the reputation “restaurant row”.  From fine dining to chic cafés, Main Street offers a myriad of choices for dinner and prices that should satisfy all tastes. 

The shopping on Main Street is best described as eclectic. Small, locally owned boutique shops with unique pieces, multicultural dining, small independent grocery, produce and meat shops and a host of friendly services gives this sought after shopping district a real “shop local” feel.
